Depicted here is our latest custom finish -- Ametista Ciello. This project found us back in Ruby Hill - where the homes are very large, with high ceilings, open floor plans and a predominant Mediterranean theme. In this home, the homeowner had decorated with a golden, burnt yellow throughout the house, and wanted a wall finish that could create a space within a space.  A bold color was very important to the homeowner. For the final finish selected, we started with the homeowner's favorite color by matching a shade in a flower she provided us.  Plaster was trowelled on with a lot of "movement" in the finish.  We then used a unique gold product which when applied over the top of the base coat, picked up the underlying movement in the plaster layer below.  All of these elements were required to create the look and feel.

This finish illustrates the difference between a custom wall finish and most venetian plaster type finishes available on the market today.  It's like buying a suit off the rack as opposed to getting one made or tailored.  Many finishers have a set of boards showing a number of finishes that they have learned how to apply.  There are typically a wide variety of colors to choose from and textures, so you can get a number of different looks.  However, a custom finish starts with the artisan paying close attention to what the customer is trying to achieve, will typically require custom blended colors and a great command of products so the homeowner can end up with the exact look he/she hoped for.  This is particularly important when working in a community where friends and neighbors are likely to visit a number of your projects - no one wants to have the exact same look.

The ceiling in this room had honeycomb type cut outs which gave an opportunity to bring in a complimentary color.  However, the main finish on the walls and ceilings is the same finish.  The picture below shows how light playing over different angles creates different looks from the same finish at the same time of the day.
