A regular look at decorative wall finishes.

Working with Designers
This project took us back to Ruby Hill. Our clients were a professional couple who were working with a designer from J. Hettinger Interiors in Danville. The clients had heard of our work and were interested in custom finishes in some of the rooms.  Working with both the homeowners and designer, we created samples of different plaster finishes for the family room and sitting room, incorporating colors from the carpeting, furniture, drapes, etc.

While we were brought in by the clients, we were very happy to find that they had also brought in a  designer who really knew what she was about.

Speaking generally, sometimes clients have fragmented ideas of what they would like done. A good designer creates a very clear picture of what they want to achieve overall with the room.  Here, the designer supplied us with all the samples of furnishings, carpets and drapes, making it very easy for us to create wall finish samples that complemented what the homeowners and designer were trying to achieve.

The designer was also very instrumental in picking the final finishes to use. Since one of the most important parts of any project is picking the finish, it makes it really easy for us when we can liaise with someone that the clients trust and believe in.  While clients obviously can tell us whether or not they like a particular finish, there can be questions in their minds as to whether it is the right one.  Since a decorative wall finish like this is a big investment, having an expert's advice makes the process more comfortable for all concerned.

In the family room of this project, pictured above, the room had high walls with a uniquely shaped ceiling which required us to finish the ceiling as well (no break point) .  The clients liked the iridescent qualities of LusterStone in darker tones. We customized a color of LusterStone and trowelled it on in numerous thin, smooth layers.  This allows the material to create more reflection.  We made the colors dark enough to give the room a warm feel, since it was a family room.

Finish of the Month - Verde D'Oro

In the formal sitting room, they were looking for a distinctly different look. The room also had new draperies and furnishings, with a much more sophisticated look.  There were a lot of golds, metallics and light greens.  What was needed was something that would incorporate some green as well as gold as a backdrop that would enhance the new furnishings and art.  We created a custom finish using a light sage green plaster overlaid with a gold plaster.  It creates a very sophisticated, subtle, rich look.

The clients were pleased enough that we are heading back there soon to do the master bedroom,  and we were happy to work with such a great team.
