Bay Area Paint Stores

Summer is about over, but we still have a few nice months of exterior painting to look forward to.

Here are a few tips on Bay Area stores for purchasing your paint materials.

Home Depot: Home Depot is not our first choice for paint, but it is a good place to buy incidentals.  The mark up for things like primer, paper, tape, etc. is considerably higher at a regular paint store. We always suggest getting your paint at your paint store of choice and getting your caulk, spackle, plastic, sandpaper, ladders as well as the things mentioned before at a Home Depot, as you will save quite a bit. Also, if you need a quick color match they can usually do a decent computer match right there for you. If you need something more accurate take it to a paint store. Home Depot service and knowledge is what it is. Out of the different stores in the Bay Area, the stores in Cupertino and Livermore seem a bit more service oriented.

Kelly Moore Paint: Most of the stores are pretty decent help wise. The Cupertino store seems to get you in and out faster, the people working there seem knowledgeable and have been there a while. They are very good on getting color matches done in a timely fashion. The other stores have more turnover.

Benjamin Moore Paint:  South Bay Paint on San Carlos/Stevens Creek is good. Very knowledgeable people, who get you in and out fast. Prices are good or better than most. Another source for Benjamin Moore is Almaden Paint and Wallpaper. Service is slower but they are very helpful and knowledgeable. South Bay Paint is more of a no nonsense painters store. Almaden Paint is geared more for the homeowner.

Sherwin Williams Paint: The store in Livermore seemed pretty efficient as well as the stores in Campbell and Gilroy. We don’t have as much experience using them, but the times we did the paint was fine and no real problems with these stores.

Pratt and Lambert Paint: This is very pricey paint. Very few places carry it and the ones that do are not at the top of our list in terms of service. If you need to use Pratt and Lambert, Grays Paint Store in Redwood City has it. They also have a few other stores in the Bay Area they have opened. The better idea here is if you have a Pratt and Lambert color chip you love, take it to another paint store and get the color matched. This way you get your color at a cheaper price.

We still have a few good exterior paint months. Interior painting can always be put off until the winter. We will be fitting a few more exteriors into the fall schedule, so call us if you need a bid. For interior work or smaller jobs feel free to call and we will refer you to someone who can do a great job.

No matter what your painting needs, call this week for an estimate.  Call  408 448 1683. Email molto@earthlink.net, website www.moltobenewalls.com.
