Dimensional
Finishes
Finish of the Month - Ruvido
Our clients here are well to do, well traveled and well read. They collect art from all over the world, from Africa to Europe. Therefore, they had a very discerning eye in terms of what they wanted to accomplish. They spend a number of months every year in Italy, and wanted to evoke the feeling of an Italian villa. He had an office in the back of the house that had old paneling that was very dark, heavily grained and covered all the surfaces -- walls, cabinets, closets. The client wanted to lighten up the room and bring some life to the room via a heavily textured finish. The client didn't want anything to stand out except for the finish itself, so we applied the finish to all the surfaces, walls, ceilings, cabinets, built-ins, even the sliding doors. The clients had stacks and stacks of pictures from magazines as well as ideas collected from their travels which they presented us with. The challenge here was to come up with one finish that was going to satisfy both of their concepts of what should be done, since the husband and wife had different concepts. The next challenge was getting rid of the heavy existing texture on all the different surfaces. Once we had a smooth surface to start with, we worked next on color. Because of the play of the color, we had to come up with the right shade that worked at all times of the day, which took many layers of plaster. The end result was a heavily dimensional finish, with a unique color that the clients loved.
