Plaster Wall Finishes
Why Veneer Plasters?Molto Bene specializes in creating beautiful wall finishes using decorative veneer plasters. Some of the more well known names of these plasters include Venetian plaster and marmarino. These techniques go back to the 15th century, when Renaissance artisans were set to duplicating the fantastic wall finishes found on old Roman ruins that had just been unearthed. Typically applied by hand with a trowel, these finishes are built up layer by layer. The translucence of the material allows the color of the previous layer to show through, giving your wall depth and color variations impossible to achieve with any other technique. Also, unlike regular plaster, these veneer plasters are light enough to adhere over regular walls, giving you the ability to transform drywall into something that has the look and feel of plaster or stone. The end product can be smooth or textured, can look like marble or rough stone -- the possibilities are almost endless. These sorts of finishes are what decorators use to recreate the look of a villa in Provence or Tuscany, as well as being extremely popular in Asian influenced, modern and eclectic decors. How do you get Veneer Plasters? If you want a master artisan to apply these finishes in your home, call Molto Bene. First, there is a consultation in your home where we will show you sample boards from past projects, so you can get an idea of the look and feel of these plasters. Since Molto Bene specializes in custom work, you are not limited to a set number of finishes or colors. For most of our projects, our portfolio is just a starting point. We will work with you or your designer to create finishes for your walls that achieve the look you want. Part of the process is creating large sample boards. We typically leave these with you so you can tape them up on the walls you want done and get an idea of what the finish will look like in different lights. Once you have decided on the finish, wall preparation begins. We can go over existing drywall and many other wall surfaces. For almost all of our finishes, we start with a smooth wall, removing any existing texture . Finally, the plasters are applied in layers with a trowel using different techniques to create the effect you want, and the color is worked into the surface in different ways, depending on the finish chosen. The whole process can take from a couple of days to a week depending on how large the space is. To start, contact Molto Bene at 925 606 0644 or molto@earthlink.net.
